On the occasion of National Voters’ Day on 25 January 2021, the Youth for Good Governance Foundation (YfGG) conducted a virtual event. There was an oath-taking ceremony and an interactive session with Ms. Tannisha Avarrsekar who is the Founder, CEO, and the Editor-in-Chief of Lokatantra. The session was based on the theme, "Solutions to Gerontocracy: Enhance Voter Registrations and Youth Participations" and was moderated by Ms. Nisha Harish, who is one of the core team members of YfGG.

The event began with an oath-taking ceremony by young voters who also shared their views on the importance of voting and their opinions on elections. In the panel discussion, Ms. Tannisha shared her insights on how it is important to not only focus on voter registrations but actually ensure that people go to the polling booth and cast their vote. Another important aspect that she highlighted was the need for increased youth participation not only as voting citizens but also as electoral candidates at various levels. It is important now more than ever for the youth to actively take part in political processes at various levels to create the change that they want to see in the world. Limiting themselves to the polling booths is not the way to solve all the issues. What is needed is active participation and engagement at the grassroots level and only the youth can bring a change in the system with their energy and enthusiasm.

Mr. Vinay N Bhushan, one of the founding directors of YfGG, delivered the vote of thanks where he highlighted the urgent need to bandwagon the youth demography to the train of democracy in a much stronger way.
